USM BLIS Faculty & Students Attended RDA Seminar

August 29-31, 2013 —- Faculty and students of the University of Southern Mindanao, under the curriculum of Bachelor of Library and Information Science, attended the PLAI SOCCSKSARGEN Region Librarians Council Seminar-workshop held at Maya Pavellion, Paraiso Verde in Koronadal City, South Cotabato. Professors Anita Sornito, Susan Martinez, Ariel Arrogante, Genevive Catulong, Lilian Clarito, and all other faculty members and librarians as well as the students altogether with the other librarians and information professionals from different places in the region, institutions and organizations were gathered to one common goal. The seminar focuses its theme on “Preparing Librarians for new Cataloging Standards and Guidelines focusing Resource Description and Access (RDA) essentials, other informative topics on Library Accountability, Code of Ethics in the Library Profession and re-echo of the CHED Proposed Requirements for Academic Libraries Common to all Programs.”

The event embarks its 1st day with the opening program held by the St. Alexius Grade School Angklung Ensemble. Participants were able to witness such a prestigious performance. After which was the opening remarks by Dr. Anita C. Sornito, PLAI SOCCSKARGEN Region Librarians Vice President and Conference Chair, followed by the induction of various programs/workshops that were assigned on designated schedules and hosted by numerous speakers and hosts including our very own Dr. Anita Sornito, Prof. Susan Martinez, Mrs. Dielita Garcia and Prof. Ariel Arrogante, all from the beloved USM. The affair highlighted the presence of South Cotabato Governor Daisy Avance-Fuentes, conveying her keynote address and addressing her inspirational words to all.
